When a Beer Bloggin’ Bastard Helps His Fellow Bastards…BIG THINGS Happen! I Introduce To You, The Very First…

by Ilya Feynberg on September 23, 2010

A man standing on a giant peppermint candy. Or a Keg...either or.

This is going to be a pretty quick post to get things off and running, but I want to make sure that everyone understands the impact of everything you’ll read and see right now.

For once, I’m going to say that I believe that I speak for just about everyone when I say that this is a HUGE deal. Bigger than big. Bigger than bigger than big. Almost like…super duper uber Beer Bloggin’ Bastard worthy Big!

As some of you might already know, the annual Wine Bloggers Conference has for some time, run a scholarship program of sorts for wine bloggers that are in need of financial assistance to make the trip. This has not only been a huge aid to wine bloggers  wanting to but not being able to financially make the trip, BUT in my opinion it’s had a bigger impact than simply helping to fund a blogger’s trip.

It’s shown that when a community of passionate people get together, actually give a shit about others, and work hard to make sure that their passion is shared and spread across the world…anything is possible.

So with out further ado….

I give to you…the very first…Beer Bloggers Scholarship Fund!

Oh ya people…I told you that it was worthy of a Beer Bloggin’ Bastard….

For the lack of better phrasing, I’m euphoric about the possibilities here. I mean this is something that actually keeps me up at night folks, along with the thought of a Great Divide Hercules Double IPA on Cask. Mmmm……

…mmmmmmmm…..

Ok sorry, I’m back now.

So, here’s the deal ladies and gents, this is a scholarship fund that is reserved for those that truly can’t financially make it and are going through financial difficulties.

A little bit of background and give to you an idea of what this scholarship is all about (taken directly off the Beer Bloggers Scholarship Fund Website):

“The general idea is this: The Beer Bloggers Conference is a great event that will allow beer bloggers to improve their craft: writing better, growing their audience, and having a greater impact on the craft brewing industry. But not every blogger can afford to attend the conference. Hence, breweries, distributors, bloggers, and other industry members can choose to donate to the Beer Bloggers Conference Scholarship, either to the general fund or to support a specific blogger.”

So since I promised short:

I’m a tech guy that recently got into beer blogging. I wish I had known about this conference a few months ago, so I could have scheduled it in. Unfortunately I’ve already booked so much travel recently that it’s not very realistic. Do you know if the 2011 conference be around the same time (November)?

@Aaron

Hi Aaron! Was just reading through some of your beer reviews last night! Make comments available on them please! Would love to chime in! :)

I don’t think that they’ve decided on the exact location of precise date just yet for next year, but I would assume that it’s going to be around the same time next year as it is this year. I do believe that right now San Francisco has the vast majority of the votes with Philadelphia coming in a somewhat “close” second.

Also here’s the actual BBC10 site for more information: http://beerbloggersconference.org/

Next year, you have to make it to where ever it’s going to be man! I have a feeling it’s only going to grow and get bigger and bigger!

Thanks for the comment! Let me know if you have any other questions what so ever! :)

Thanks. That’s too bad about San Francisco. Don’t get me wrong, I love SF, but I already go there once a year. I really liked the idea of having it in Boulder. Either way, hopefully I’ll make it next year.

As for my site, I need to get some more time to work on it. I have plans to open it up to allow others to leave reviews. I just haven’t built the front-end tools to allow that yet.

@Aaron

Yep, I totally agree with you on that one! In fact many people do. GREAT city for beer and food but it’s a bit over done and has an already great standing reputation. I for one would love to have the event somewhere on the east coast or in the New England area…I think those areas would be great.

As for the site, keep it growing and keep it coming! :)
